--Guest-- | They definitely need to make the welcome sign area off limits. Not only does the landscaping around the sign get trampled, but there are already several indentations on the letters where people have kicked and bumped into them. A simple three-foot-high picket fence around the sign should greatly reduce this problem. The welcome sign at the California park is significantly larger and has landscaping better suited for extensive foot traffic around the sign:

Lego Star V 940 Posts | Maybe they just need to make it like California with a sidewalk to and along the sign - looks like the intent is for folks to have access to the sign probably for pictures. A fence would defeat the purpose. As with all things that have public access - maintenance and repairs will have to be done. Children and landscaping don't mix well - that will also require maintenance or change. Just need to do what they did in California and put in some sparse and pretty hardy and/or easy to replace plants. It would just be a welcome sign with some common plants - not a historical botanical garden that needs protection. |

--Guest-- | The welcome sign at the park's entrance isn't faring very well. The letters are hollow in the center which is why many of them have indentations on their surface. The back of the "W" is really bad...there's a large section (about 6" X 6") that has caved in on it. With all the kid's that climb all over it (despite the sign saying not to), it's just a matter of time before one of the letters breaks apart.
If the park is going to keep the sign at the present location, they need to make a new sign that is solidly built to withstand the rigors of kid's posing on it. Other alternatives include fencing off the sign or elevating it so it can't be climbed upon. |

I didn't notice the letters themselves, but the grass is looking TERRIBLE. (Sorry, had to take this photo with my iPhone...)

There are special places in the sign that are meant to come out, so I'm not sure if that's what you're seeing or something else. | |   | -------------------- I am Legoland Florida's most zealous advocate! |

Lego Star V 940 Posts | A few Legos and some glue - the sign is as good as new. As to the grass - just put pavers or rubber mulch around the sign. Problem solved!!! |

--Guest-- | Unfortunately, it's not that easy. The park has been gluing broken chunks back in place. The problem is that the sign is hollow and kids (and some irresponsible adults) end up damaging the repaired areas all over again. It's a losing battle. The only way to keep the sign intact (other than elevating it or fencing it off) is to create a new sign that is completely filled in with welded together legos. |

--Guest-- | I heard a large chunk of the letter "C" in the welcome sign broke off and had to be repaired. The park recently placed a bunch of plants around the welcome sign in an effort to keep kids from climbing all over it. The landscaping looks good, but I doubt it will stop the kids from posing on the sign anyway. If the landscaping fails to do the job, the park has a fence ready to close off the welcome sign. |

Lego Star V 940 Posts | Just build a stronger sign that can take some abuse so people can take pictures on it or in front of it. If for some reason LL has a problem with folks taking pictures on or next to their sign, just raise it up 6 feet with a fancy pole structure under it - then folks can take pictures under it. |

--Guest-- | It looks like the park finally installed a new welcome sign. It's about the same size as the old sign except they used larger lego bricks to construct it. The larger bricks means the edging of the letters isn't as smooth as the old sign, but it should be much more durable. |

Lego Star V 940 Posts | LL wants people to take pictures on or next to their sign - it makes guests happy. LL doesn't want to electrocute people - that doesn't make them happy. All LL had to do was build a more durable sign which they have. A sign can always be repaired or replaced - it is not historical. |

--Guest-- | I noticed the park placed a lego welcome sign along the access road leading to the parking toll booths. I think the letters are from the old welcome sign that was previously at the park entrance. Let's hope it holds up better at its new location...it's at the far end of the parking lot so it won't see nearly as many people climbing all over it. |

Lego Star V 940 Posts | If for any reason a sign gets broken - LL will fix it. These signs are not historical and like anything else can be repaired. I am sure LL has no problem with folks "climbing" all over one of their signs if they take pictures and show it to their friends. A cheap form of advertising even if LL has to fix up a sign every now and then. |

--Guest-- | The park has installed a small barrier around the welcome sign...it's the same kind of barrier they use in the Miniland area. The park probably decided to do this since the letter "E" has a small chip in it (someone must have really kicked it hard) and the plantings were constantly being trampled. I think the new barrier will reduce the number of kids climbing on the sign but won't eliminate the problem since kids can easily step over it. |

Lego Star V 940 Posts | At this point we have discussed the welcome sign beyound death. There must be something more interesting going on then worrying about a welcome sign getting a chip in it. |

Master Builder 1362 Posts | LOL, well I doubt there will be much of interest to talk about until next year when the Pirate Shores construction gets going. Until then, I guess we have more Legoman videos to look forward to. | |   | -------------------- I am Legoland Florida's most zealous advocate! |
